Prison Island was first a sultanÍs place, then a slave departure point, then a prison, then a quarantine center in times of cholera. Now itÍs for tourists. Notice the progression? (Not necessarily Darwinian.) You get to feed huge tortoises as well as ñbabiesî only two feet long, about 30 years old. The old-timers have five to six-foot shells and are considerably less ñswiftî on their feet. The little ones are amazingly mobile coming toward you expecting a spinach snack.
