| Carnival means annually digging up the devil. Costumed runners carrying it descend into crowds profusely spraying the foam that eventually, fogs everyone. Fistfuls of talc stick to the moisture from the spray, and everyone ends up chalky looking. Firecrackers sound like small cannons. A lot of wine and beer is consumed and people dance to many bands. Carnival ends nine days later when they rebury the devil, assuring that their spirits are safe for yet another year. |
