Cuba trip
This building that collapsed during an earthquake needs restoring as do so many in Old Havana. Deeds for properties have been transferred to a state-run enterprise, Habaguanex. Part of Project Fenix, it funnels what foreign tourists spend toward restoration. About 40% goes into developing more tourist lodging, a third toward social causes and the rest toward rebuilding Old Havana. The task is daunting considering only 100 of Old Havana's more than 3,000 structures were built in the 20th century - 500 from the 19th, 200 from the 18th and 144 from the 16th and 17th centuries.
