It's 700 steps down, 500 up to see where the Yangze turns into white water at Tiger Leaping Gorge. Northwest of Lijiang adjacent to the Jade Dragon Snow Mountains, the gorge got its name from legend that says a tiger used two peaks across the river from each other as stepping stones.
