The oldest person encountered is undoubtedly this 98-year-old lama at the Yufeng monastery in a Bai village near Lijiang. He successfully defended the monastery and its 500-year-old camellia tree from being destroyed during the cultural revolution in the '80s (inset at lower left, a picture of a picture from that time). Not many were so lucky.
