This ethnic minority boy works hard tending his family's goats – and apparently cheerfully. This contrasts with a lot of whiny, demanding children unavoidable in more cosmopolitan areas. An unintended result of China's one-child policy is extremely spoiled children, especially pudgy boys who get too many treats. Several times on trains I would see boys perhaps 12 years old clinging to their mothers, even kissing on the lips. Twenty-somethings raised as only children and in vastly improved economic conditions have highly different expectations than their parents. It will be interesting when this group takes on the reins of government.
