Venturing out to the 798 gallery district in northeast Beijing, I was surprised at how large the art enclave is - blocks and blocks. It was once a small alternative art scene, but flourished to point where some artists now have to move to more affordable areas. It is full of galleries, boutiques and eateries - some seedy, some swank - and many forms of street sculpture.
