| PREVIOUS EXPERIENCE
1980-86 - Freelance writing and conceptual development for public relations. Interviewed business executives and users of products and services and wrote articles for professional, trade and general interest publications. Analyzed company programs, surveys and studies for news value and wrote articles for appropriate media. Developed format and wrote features for newsletters. Accounts included Wang Laboratories, Donnelley Marketing Information services, Decision Resources (software) and Touche-Ross. Spotted news angles PR people with no journalism background often failed to see. Successfully made technical subjects understandable to the lay reader. 1972-74- Account executive and writer at Dudley-Anderson-Yutzy Public Relations, New York, for clients: Lederle Laboratories, The Banana Bunch (importers), Ac-cent International and others in the food industry. Was sent to Central America to photograph and develop feature stories about bananas. The other two major clients were primarily crisis management. Lederle's product was a controversial birth control pill. Organizing a national tour for a female gynecologist and researcher in the field created favorable publicity to counteract attacks by sexual luddites. Ac-cent ( MSG) had to be defended as a natural food product rather than a chemical additive. Translating scientific data into layman's terms was the most effective way to do this and have it accompany usage stories. 1971-72 - Special events coordinator and publicist, The J.L. Hudson Co., Detroit, MI. Coordinated fashion shows, in-store promotional events and exhibits as well as media relations. All-around learning experience. Involved in every aspect of organizing, executing and publicizing events. Maximized publicity by customizing releases to the local media. 1966-71 - Staff writer, assistant metro editor, The Detroit News. Wrote family/life-style features, assigned articles to stringers, edited incoming articles and laid out 8-16 pages daily. As a writer, I covered events ranging from riots in Downtown Detroit to parties at the Dodge estate in Grosse Pointe. Brought a youthful flair to overly traditional fashion pages. 1965 -Publications assistant, World Veterans Federation, Paris. |
